Summary/Abstract: V. Kataiev was one of the foremost Soviet columnists of the twenties. He wrote fictionalized columns commentaries which were the synthesis of journalism and belles-lett­res. The feature of journalism was in it the way of presentation of events in which the author started from a concrete fact. However, the factographic groundwork constituted in Kataiev’s columns only a premiss to the creation of the peculiar improvisation on the selected subject. The feature of belles-lettres was in it a skaz technique of narration and such means of expression as hyperbole, grotesque, parody, dialogue. The artistic tricks applied by the author and all the elements of a column – title, motto, the course of action, conclusion had as its aim the manifestation of the relation of a satirist towards the present events, and incitement of a reader to fulfilling of the postulates put forward for them.
