PROBLEMS CONNECTED WITH THE WRITINGS OF LEONID ANDREIEV

Summary/Abstract: In connection with the growing interest in Russian literature on the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries the author remembers the role and place of the works of Leonid Andreiev. He also puts forward a number of key problems with which investigationshould be started and suggests ways of approaching them . They are connected with the necessity of working out a new model of the creative development of Leonid Andreiev who was the forerunner of expressionism in Russian literature. The author investigates the formation of a new poetics in the prose of the author of 'The Life of Vasil Fivieyskij' and compares him to analogical phenomena in the paintings of Munch and Hodler. The second part of the work contains a discussion of the innovatory traits of Andreiev’s drama and the characteristics of the works of the last period of his life.
