Summary/Abstract: The term ‘generation’ refers to the human communities that exist within the same time period and with similar life experience. In sociological terms, in every 20 years, a new generation with similar values, beliefs and attitudes comes into existence. Each generation differs from the others with its unique characteristics. Work value is one of the indicators of the generational differences. Today, as far as its characteristics and their impact on work life are concerned, Generation Y is subject to many debates and studies. In today’s world, with the technological developments and social transformation, the 20 year period that is assumed to be a proper time period to define a generation could be considered a very long period to explain the differences between the human behaviours. In this regard, it is possible to observe differences in work values between the members of the same generation. In this study, we aim to find out the possible differences in work values within the generation Y; which is divided into two groups, in order to point out the variation in work values in between the older and younger members. The survey study was conducted with 270 participants, whom were applied ‘The Work Values Scale’ along with the related demographic questions. Analyses show that younger members of the Generation Y attach far more importance to the extrinsic values than do the older members. Education level of their parents is also a determinant in social and alturistic values of the participants. Gender-related comparisons reveal that all three values (extrinsic, intrinsic, social and altruistic) are higher in women than men.
