Summary/Abstract: Freudian psychoanalysis is marked by the technique of revealing the latentunconscious segment of one’s personality through the interpretation of what theperson does, but primarily by what and how the person says something. Shakespearehas masterfully used the language to depict the elusiveness of human nature dwellingbetween the need not to betray the ideal vision of one’s own appearance and one’sinner essence that is almost always determined by some insufficiently successfulchannelling of urges. If core humanity is agreed to be all about the necessity anddesire to achieve the contact with the other, the contact is invariably accompaniedby the use of some language that presents the path to human self-knowledge, but itmight also be the cause of misunderstanding. Psychoanalytical interpretations mayoffer some insight into certain general human features in the character of Othello, whose personality can be assessed based on the language employed by him or thosetalking about him. As time goes by, the alterations obvious in the words Othello startsor ceases to use reflect the changes in his psychic structure, view of life and relationswith the other people. Thus the language contributes to the better explanation ofsymbolic systems underlying the mental structure of a person or community andit helps the interpretation of individual reactions conditioned by the frustrationsstemming from one’s early childhood so as to raise awareness of numerous actionsand to avoid mistakes detrimental to the individual and the society one belongs to.
