Summary/Abstract: The paper examines certain formal and stylistic facets of the past timereference forms in Momčilo Nastasijević’s short story A Note about the gifts from mycousin Marija as well as their equivalents in English translation. The analysis showedstructural diversity and high degree of stylistic efficiency of these forms in the Serbianlanguage along with, primarily stylistic, departures in translation. The departureswere observed through the prism of different syntactic and stylistic potential of thetwo languages in question as well as from the perspective of potentially differenttranslation solutions.
