Summary/Abstract: This study’s goal is to describe of two types of women at the end of the 19th century namely the femme fragile and femme fatale in literature and painting around 1900. The aim of this work is not to list the characteristics of the two types, but rather to show that in some cases - as here with Schnitzler – these female characters have borrowed attributes from one another. The analysis is based on texts by Arthur Schnitzler and used on portraits of women by Gustav Klimt.
