Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to study the international experience of public libraries` activity on the formation of media and the information culture of users. Methodology. During the research, the following general scientific methods are applied: analysis, synthesis, generalization. This methodological approach allows analyzing the activity of public libraries that are involved in media education processes, according to the requirements of members of the community of particular countries, to summarize the results of this area of work. Scientific Novelty. This paper is an attempt to identify directions for improving the work of Ukrainian libraries in the formation of media and information culture considering international experience. The justified position that at the present stage of the development of society, libraries are called upon to disseminate and popularize information on the importance of digital literacy among the country’s population contributes to the formation of relevant competencies among users. Conclusions. The public libraries of Australia and Finland play a significant role in the development of media education and the display culture of their users. This follows from the joint projects of libraries with national institutions of media education and the current position of library associations in this sphere. The normative legal documents regulating issues of media and information literacy are crucial. The system of measures of national libraries should be aimed at training members of lifelong society learning, using a complex of various innovative tools and methods that meet the challenges of our time.
