Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the lexico-semantic characteristics of the Russian compound substantives of the zhar - ptitsa (жар - птица) type. The author subdivides such substantives into 8 lexico-semantic groups and elucidates the accentual and grammatical peculiarities of them.
