THE DECONSTRUCTION OF THE HEROIC WORLD IN SERBIAN LITERATURE OF 19TH CENTURY

Summary/Abstract: In this paper we analyze the tragedy “Jelisaveta, the princess of Montenegro” by Djuro Jaksic and the play “The False Tsar Stephen the Little” by Petar Petrovic Njegos, in order to show the way in which the heroic world in these works is deconstructed. Important time in establishing the heroic principle as one of the most important parts of national identity is the 19th century. Appearance of literary works that call into question heroic world is a breakthrough in this period, especially because of the social role that literature played. The paper will focus on analyzing the proces that writers use to deconstruct the heroic world.
