“Do not slander Wałęsa…” Political threads in the Oława revelations of 1983–1998

Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the political motives appearing in the texts of the messages disseminated in the years 1983–2002 by a visionary from Oława, Kazimierz Domański. This analysis allows for verifying the popular thesis that there is a clear correlation between the periods of intensified miraculous events and periods of tensions and socio-political breakthroughs. It leads to the conclusion that the revelations and the vernacular narratives related to them should be associated not so much with specific historical situations, but rather viewed in the context of the traditionalist and millenarian movements of a universalistic character.
