Changes in housing policy in Poland − selected issues

Summary/Abstract: Great importance of housing for the proper functioning of the family, society and economy means that today in developed countries, state policy to different degree helps to access this particularly expensive and important good. The article focuses only on some of the changes in housing policy in Poland. A special role has been given to a government program Rodzina na swoim (Family on its own) because it was associated with high expectations connected with the development of the housing market and improving the housing situation of young families. And although the program in 2007–2011 met with great interest and contributed to the increase in the supply of housing, it did not solve the housing problem because its customers were mostly the affluent members of society. Housing policy is necessary to make such an instrument to help solve housing problems for low income citizens. Currently, high hopes are nursed with the program of social housing that will replace Rodzina na swoim program in 2013.
