Summary/Abstract: This study’s aim is to indicate the possibilities of utilizing the potential of external environment in the process of rehabilitation of incarcerated individuals based on the example of broadly understood volunteer work in penitentiary practice. The idea should be implemented both in the form of actions originating within the prisons: convicts working for the benefit of society, as well those coming from the outside, namely, the contribution of external organizations into the process of penitentiary interactions in the in‑prison rehabilitation programs. The examples presented in the article mostly concern the penitentiary consisting in the cooperation of the Racibórz Prison with the local community, including the academic volunteering group.
