Summary/Abstract: Children with developmental disabilities face, on a daily basis, challenges many obstacles in society. Although they are often discriminated against by the environment, children with disabilities are unknown to the social services to which they are entitled and are therefore excluded from them. Such deprivations can have far-reaching effects by restricting access to income-generating employment, or participating in civic affairs later in life. Many of the deprivations suffered by children with disabilities stem from and are exacerbated by their invisibility. The research community is working to make more children visible through improved data collection and analysis. This will help to overcome ignorance and discrimination, direct resources and interventions and measure their effects. In this paper, we will try to give a brief overview of what it means to have a child with disabilities, the attitude of society towards this category of children, and what is the role of social work in working with this group of users.
