Moldova between West and East: which comes first, Euro-integration or conflict settlement?

Summary/Abstract: Negotiations for European integration show an increasing trend, however, the reality concerning negotiations on the Transnistrian conflict settlement is quite different. Two years after their start, the situation has become tense in the Security Zone. Tiraspol administrative actions are aimed at obstructing the European integration of Moldova, and Russia still has plans to create a military base on the left bank. The aim of this article is to approach this problem from a different angle – that the euro-integration process may in some ways be inversely proportional to the reintegration of Moldova.
