Summary/Abstract: The article provides a window into the charismatic tradition of spiritual direction and formation in the Eastern Orthodox Church offering a contemporary example of an urban parish in Bucharest, Romania, seen through the lenses of a case study, which examines the pastoral and missionary activity of its spiritual father, Gheorghe Sima, and the outlook of Dobroteasa parish, focused on the inner change of Christians, including children and the youth, and its social corollary effect – active participation in the transformation of the society and the world. The findings of the study and their interpretation in the light of the Eastern Orthodox tradition show that the Church’s pastoral work of spiritual direction and formation, realised through spiritual paternity and anchored in its community life, is the expression and the authentic seal of the life in Christ, by which the Christian takes on the image of the meek, humble, obedient and loving Christ.
