The Ways of Explicating Biblical Prophecies in Scary Book by Fr. Adam Szustak

Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the texts of online retreats delivered by father Adam Szustak and published in Straszna książka (Scary Book). The Old Testament prophecies and the Apocalypse of St. John were dealt with by the preacher. The author of the present paper analyses the ways of explicating difficult content of the prophecies, i.e. text organization, the meaning of words and Semite terms as well as the symbols and imagery. Personal evaluation of the text and the means of making it up-to-date in the retreat-giver’s persuasive discourse is highlighted.
