Summary/Abstract: Aleksandr Zuzenko (1884-1938) was a sailor, journalist and revolutionary who lived in Australia from 1911 to 1919, when he was deported to Odessa, whence he returned to Australia as an agent of the Third International. Deported again, he spent the rest of his life as a Soviet sea-captain until his arrest and execution in Stalin’s purges. Some aspects of his life, including his Australian career, were reflected in Soviet literature, in particular in the works of Konstantin Paustovsky and Yurii Klimenchenko. This paper considers Zuzenko and his Austra lian career as reflected in the works of these writers.
