Summary/Abstract: Orphanage "Bitolia" was founded in Sofia at 15 th February 1915 as a initiative that followed the orphanage "Nadezhda" in Bitolia. The institution began its life with the support of the Bulgarian women refugees from Macedonia organised in Macedonian women association. In the beginning in the orfanage 25 orphans found shelter. In the following years the number of children rose and reached 117. The author revealed some important aspects of every day life in the orphanage; its social activity and contacts with other organisations. The orphanage activity was suspended by the Communist rule in 1947 as a part of the efforts to make totalitarian control over society.
