Summary/Abstract: In this article C. Weber reveal the culture of memory in modern Bulgaria in the end of the XIXth and the beginning of the XXth century. She argues that till the end of the century the state is not the initiator and the bearer of the memory about the "Liberation War". In the very beginning Bulgarian "invention of tradition" was not state power initiative. In this period the power of memory culture in Bulgaria was a matter of regional and social initiatives. Most of the initiatives about the past were part of commemoration of Russian monarch Alexander II. In this regard Russia played very important role as a motor for Bulgarian culture of memory. It was in the beginning of the XXth century when historical memory became mediated state action. In the end the author argue that Bulgarian case is a part from the common European culture of monuments and memory from the XIXth and the beginning of the XXth century.
