Media and the Quarantined World – a Look into History

Summary/Abstract: On the background of milestones in the world of media until 1918 as well as information on monarchs, politicians, wars, and important representatives of the contemporary world of science and culture, the author summarizes epidemics, pandemics, and infectious diseases which had been written in chronicles and lexicons. The study is an expression of gratitude to the staff of traditional and new media, data centres and telecommunications for connecting with loved ones, for the opportunity to learn at a distance and work from home, to buy or pay contactless, and all this at a time of complete cessation of ordinary life during the corona crisis. Special thanks to front-line journalists who bring information from hospitals, retirement homes, and testing centres, who ask politicians, virologists, and economists questions about the current situation.
