Summary/Abstract: The conditions for obtaining the title of minor basilica are set out in canon law. They relate to formal criteria, temple equipment, religious, historical and cultural values as well as teams of people for liturgical and pastoral ministry. The process of granting the title of basilica is a two-step process. First, in the diocese, an assessment of legal criteria should be carried out in relation to a specific object, appropriate documentation prepared and forwarded to the Holy See. The second stage is the examination of the application by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments and the decision. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sorrows, Mrs. Skrzatusz, in which the cult of the miraculous Pieta has been developing since the 17th century, is still an important center of religious, social and cultural life. Meeting the legal criteria, the Skrzatusz temple received the title of minor basilica, which was solemnly announced on September 15, 2019.
