June-July 2020. Nostalgia of the Memories, Nostalgia of the Prayer

Summary/Abstract: In June-July 2020 the author was present in towns and villages like Tecuci, Garoafa, Domneºti, Fãrãoani, Valea Mare, Luizi-Cãlugãra. While speaking with Csángó, Romanian, Romani people there, one of the recurring themes of discussion was their longing for their homeland which became distant for them. Religious faith and prayer bring comfort in their lives. While working there on the inventory of two personal archives consisting of religious objects and books in Hungarian and Romanian language, emerged discussions about a complex religious practice. Prayers learned in Romanian language in their childhood, archaic Hungarian prayers and liturgical songs, apocryphal biblical stories are blended with a rich tradition of gestures and old practices. Within the situation of praying the past and the memories blend with the transcendent power of religious faith.
