Neopatristic Influences in the Christology of Father Justin Popovici

Summary/Abstract: The theology of Father Iustin Popovici, a prominent representative of neo-patristics, is par excellence Christological. The center of his theological thinking is the divine-human person of Christ. Christ unites in His divine-human person two mysteries, that mean the mystery of God and the mystery of man. The mystery of Christ, as God and Man, is revealed to man through faith, which also represents dwelling of Christ in man. Without Christ in his life, man’s condition in this world is desperate, hopeless. Man does not have life in himself if he does not have God in him that is Life Itself. The dwelling of God in man is possible through compatibility with the Logos that is part of the image of God that man received at his creation. Accepting to become man due to His supreme love, Jesus Christ sanctified man, deified him. For Father Iustin Popovici, Christology, the mystery of Christ, is the answer to man’s aspirations and quests from all times. The mystery of the Truth is not in things, ideas or symbols, but in a Person, and this person is divine-human, our Lord Jesus Christ.
