Summary/Abstract: The specific nature of leadership in special forces units entails a whole series of specific challenges resulting from the unit’s intended purpose and methods of task completion. By their very nature, special operations require a constant introduction of innovation in terms of tactics, techniques, and operational procedures. New solutions, coupled with an unconventional approach to new challenges, can only be effectively implemented by a team of carefully selected and creative leaders who are also able to win and maintain among their subordinates the authority of a trusted informal leader. An integral and crucial aspect of the specifics of leadership in the special unit in question is also its position within the command structures of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland.
