Summary/Abstract: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The objective of the paper is to present the activity of parental organizations in the light of the reports of the administration of Polish state gymnasiums in the interwar period. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The paper is an attempt to answer the question: What was the activity of parental organizations in the light of the reports of the administration of Polish state gymnasiums? The procedure of historical research was implemented, including the preliminary research of sources, their evaluation and elaboration. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The paper begins with an outline of the need for home and school cooperation after Poland had regained its independence. It presents the formation of parental organizations operating in state gymnasiums in interwar Poland, their goals, structure and scope of activity, which was a response to the needs of the schools. RESEARCH RESULTS: Parental organizations in state gymnasiums of interwar Poland had various internal structures (sections); they raised funds in the form of donations and income generated from events organized by parents. They organized extra meals for pupils, granted material aid to the poorer ones, supported financially the most urgent needs of the school, provided subventions to school organizations and dealt with broadly understood educational issues. Usually all parents were members of the parental circle (committee or society). CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Despite the difficult socio-economic conditions of the Second Polish Republic, over the years the educational and organizational influences of parental circles in gymnasiums were strengthened, and the understanding of the need for cooperation between home and school grew among parents. The activity of parental organizations in state gymnasiums of interwar Poland indicates its expanding scope and the development of diverse forms of home and school cooperation. Their achievements and experiences recorded in school reports can be used nowadays for organizing cooperation between home and school.
