Summary/Abstract: In the article are presented the synthetic review of the literature from P. Jaccard in 1908 to B. Mirkin, 2011. In this paper, the concept and classification of cluster validity indices are proposed. There are presented classification of validity indices to find the optimal number of clusters. The results of this study should be useful for all concerned with the problems of classification.
