Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to outline the range of issues related to the democratisation of culture in light of modern cultural phenomena. The starting point is Karl Mannheim's concept of the democratisation of culture. A more specific picture appears in the course of an evaluative examination of the standpoints represented by Max Weber and Niklas Luhmann against the reality of contemporary culture, but also influenced by the Foucauldian approach to processes of securitisation (provision of security in social life). Another important thread within this paper is the objection to the unchallenged affirmation predominating over social studies of the processes of the democratisation of culture.
