Protection of patents and utility models in Poland in comparison to Central and Eastern Europe

Summary/Abstract: This article presents the activity in the reporting and recording of inventions and utility models in Poland and other countries of Central and Eastern Europe in the years 1980–2011. Data bases of GUS (the CSO of Poland) and the World Intellectual Property Organization were data source of the study. The most active countries in Central and Eastern Europe in terms of patent applications were Slovenia and Estonia. On the other hand, in terms of registration of utility models stand out Estonia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, while the least active in this area were Bulgaria, Slovenia and Romania. Polish activity in this area was average.
