Summary/Abstract: The article presents the identification and evaluation of changing disparities in European Union as well as shows the variation among countries, regions and sub-regions, with particular emphasis on cross-border sub-region of Jelenia Góra. The economic structure of the sub-region revealed a significant role of diverse industries and specialized services, especially tourism and spa. In relation to other parts of the Dolnośląskie Voivodship and the neighbor regions of the EU, Jelenia Góra sub-region shows a lower level of development. However, in the last decade were clearly observed symptoms of the development, which reveals the value of GDP per capita measured in purchasing power parity.
