Summary/Abstract: The author addresses the cultural interaction between Sarmatians and Kangju and the population of Karabakak city and its suburbs in Mangystau Peninsula during the 1st—3rd cc. AD and sometimes later. The tamgas of Kangju aristocracy used by Sarmatians (Pokrovka, Bitak, Aigyr Ushkan etc.) and Sarmatian tamgas in Karakabak and those on the saddle of the early 5th c. AD from Altynkazgan were analyzed. The specific similarity in details of Kangju and Sarmatian “dragon” standards, travel vehicles and some “animal style” bracelets found in Kangju vassal, Yancai, as well as in later earrings, is established. The scull deformation since in the 1st-3rd cc. CE was, probably, spread mainly from the Lower Syrdarya in various directions
