Summary/Abstract: Plague epidemics and pandemics in the past of humanity have been described inhistorical sources and literary works. “Justinian’s Plague” (541–542), “The Black Death” (1347–1351)and “The Great Plague of London” (1665), initially revealed by historians, eventually became creativesubjects for writers, poets and journalists. The subject of the plague was diversified, being approachedits polyvalent manifestations, including zoomorphic symbols. The disastrous impact of the plague onsociety was later transformed into a literary process of critique of human vices through metaphoricaland allegorical creations, elaborated by epigrammists, humorous and satirical writers.
