Summary/Abstract: Between the years 1918 and 1939, philanthropic associations played a major social role in L’viv, as did in other large Jewish communities in Central and Eastern Europe. The aim of this research paper is to present and discuss selected Jewish associations providing assistance to children, students in secular schools and youth studying at universities. It has to be pointed out that their high level of activity was an expression of the modernization processes taking place among the Jewish population and, clearly, the enhancement of these processes.
