Summary/Abstract: The Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox Church approved six documents, one message and one encyclical. Before releasing the final form of these documents a long and rigorous debate was necessary within a series of Pan-Orthodox meetings. The document about “The Importance of Fasting and its Observance Today” didn’t undergo fundamental changes following the Council of Crete, although many hierarchs expected major alterations regarding this subject. However, the second one, namely “Relations of the Orthodox Church with the rest of the Christian World,” suffered most of the amendments during the Synod and attracted the majority of the reactions both before and after the meeting of the Holy and Great Council.
