Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to highlight year 2013 as the European Year for Active Citizenship in the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union. The author presents an analysis of several decisions of the Court of Justice of the European Union in the field of European citizenship, which were issued by a court in the period from January 2013 to October 2013. In this period has been granted a total of 7 decisions of the key concept of European citizenship and all proceedings were in the nature of a preliminary ruling under Article 267 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. Most of the decisions regarding certain forms of claims on finance support, which are associated with EU citizenship, such as scholarships for students, pensions, family allowances, disability pensions. Analysis of the case offers a basic understanding of the benefits of EU citizenship.
