Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to discuss the interdisciplinary nature of a translator’s work based on examples of English neologisms and their Polish equivalents that were derived from two books about the 2007/08 economic crisis. The innovative character of new lexis makes that the translator, when engaging in the process of its translation, needs to integrate the skills, tools and achievements of many different fields of study to create a target language term that would most precisely express the intended meaning. To show the wealth of points of view from which the translator approaches the translation of economic neologisms, the analysis is performed on two levels. As regards the source text, attention is devoted to identifying both the neologisms and the linguistic mechanisms involved in their creation. With regard to the target text, there is carried out a contrastive study of English neologisms and their Polish counterparts as well as a translatological analysis aimed at finding out the translation procedure applied and determining the extent to which it allowed to preserve the innovative character of a given neologism.
