Summary/Abstract: The article describes “faces of childhood ” presented in contemporary literary texts. The analysis was based on selected books for children, which partly constitute the readings proposed in the core curriculum, or may be recognized as a development of reading interests. The description refers to the classification proposed by Grzegorz Leszczyński, who specified such categories as: homo ludens, homo domesticus, homo scholasticus, homo artifex, homo legens, tractatus de arte moriendi. This typology has been expanded to include categories specific to modern times: homo viator and homo computatrum.
