Evaluation of Alternative Tourism of Manavgat: A Qualitative Study

Summary/Abstract: In this study, the SWOT analysis of the alternative tourism types that can and/or could be done in Manavgat, where is the one of the important touristic centers of Antalya, has been examined. In the study, interview technique was used within the scope of qualitative research method. In this context, structured interviews were held with a sample selected from the managers of associations, institutions, organizations and chambers, which are the pioneers of public institutions and private sector, which directly affect the tourism policy and decision-makers of Manavgat. Participants stated that in order to develop alternative tourism in Manavgat, the tourism season should spread throughout the year, to focus on nature, culture and sports-oriented tourism types, to be more active in the planning and implementation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, to fill the existing facilities and to minimize competition. They emphasize that it is necessary to make joint decisions, complete infrastructure deficiencies, increase investment in promotional activities and implement a committee on this issue.
