Summary/Abstract: Turkey is a country divided into 7 regions with the population exceeding 79 million. Some regions in Turkey are disadvantaged regions in terms of economic development because of inter-regional geographical location and the differences in the distance to markets and in the inter-regional security risk. In the present study, it is aimed to analyze the poverty phenomenon as an important field for the economic development in terms of the disadvantaged regions in Turkey. The answer has been search to the question “what strategies the disadvantaged regions must focus on in the fight against poverty”. In the scope of the study, the data have been obtained from the official statistics and periodicals. The data obtained have been presented in three stages. In the chapter 1, poverty, poverty indicators, basic concepts belonging to poverty, and the definition of the disadvantaged region have been clarified. In the chapter 2, the poverty phenomenon in Turkey has been explained. In the chapter 3, the poverty phenomenon in the disadvantaged regions in Turkey has been explained. In this context, life satisfaction in the disadvantaged regions has been examined under the titles of unemployment, social life, security, environment, education, health, income, and wealth. Consequently, it is confirmed that the regions TRC3, TRC2 and TRB2 are the poorest regions of the country because these regions have been under the average of Turkey in the important fields such as the average annual income per household, the unemployment rates, gross domestic product amounts, education, and health.
