Summary/Abstract: Marian devotion has been one of the most characteristic features of religious life of the Polish nation. Over the centuries it had taken different forms, and finally at the beginnings of 18th century it manifested in the acts of coronations of Mother of God paintings. Owing to the Bernardine Fathers there are six paintings located in Hrubieszów, Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, Leżajsk, Rzeszów, Skępe and Piotrków Trybunalski which cult radiates out to the whole country and across its boarders. The worship given to Marys’ paintings in Bernardine sanctuaries was not stimulated by external factors and developed by itself. A lot of people have received graces and experienced miracles through the intercession of Mary. It gave the Bernardines a good reason to make efforts to crown these paintings and statues. The coronations stressed the significance of the cult which has flown from Mary’s supernatural interference in life of the Polish society.
