Summary/Abstract: The article localizes, textually, and chronologically, Max Weber’s most virtuoso theoretical work, ‘Basic Sociological Concepts’ (1920). It argues that this work was written as an introduction to Weber’s contribution to the Project of Social Economy, which he designed, coordinated, and effectively directed. The article focuses on the last ten paragraphs of Weber’s work published in this issue, and based on this the conclusions about the generative power of the categorial network in it are drawn. A key contention in the article is that the “Basic Sociological Concepts” in combination with the “Basic Sociological Categories of Economic Action” should be understood as a kind of instructive logic for interpreting (within the Project of Social Economy) modern capitalism as “the most fateful force” in modern culture and for tracing its genesis from heterogeneous socio-economic constellations.
