Summary/Abstract: Born in Barcelona in 1923 as a child of a Catalan family, Antoni Tapies struggled with a serious illness in his early yout and saw the catastrophes of the Spanish Civil War. After a short time at the Law School, he abandoned his legal studies in 1944 and pursued his interest in art. He became one of the most important artists working in the second half of the 20th century as he was universally recognized by art critics. He wanted to find his own personal iconography in his plain but also full of power works and expression, to respond to the basics about people and to find beauty and transcendence. The plastic value of his works with extraordinary materials such as sand, foam, soil and the richness of natural soil colors directly appealed to the viewer. The aim of this study is to draw attention to the works that contain the deep meanings that the artist reached with his free expression style and creativity, and reach the monumental supremacy of the aesthetic dimension in his works.
