Summary/Abstract: Formalism and realism has always been a pioneer issue for cinema since the beginning era of it. Initially it was almost all about the assembly and realism. Cinema theorists like Bazin thought assembly had been something like downsizing the cinema industry. There had been those who thougt the opposite like Eisenstein. After the technological improvements it is almost impossible to see a non-digital movie. Nowadays, movies are shot digitally and in almost all film types digital effects are used to recreate the reality. Del toro is one of the directors who is aware of this situation. In the reality of the Del Toro films, there are fantastic figures that mostly created with digital effects. In this study it’s investigated the contribution of digital effects to the story of “Shape of Water” movie.
