Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study was to assess the reliability and validity of the Turkish adaptation of the Intimate Adult Relationship Questionnaire – Short Form (IARQ/SF), which can be used to examine individuals’ perceptions of their spouses or intimate partners’ acceptance-rejection. A total of 413 university students (305 (73.8%) women and 108 men (26.2%) between the ages of 18 and 25 years) participated in the study. The mean duration of the relationship was 24.49 (S = 21.75, range = 1-112) months. In the study, the Relationship Satisfaction subscale of the Relationship Stability Scale was also used in order to evaluate the criterion-related validity of the IARQ/SF. The findings of the confirmatory factor analysis showed that the revised 4-factor model, which was obtained by loading the item 13 to warmth/affection factor instead of the indifference/neglect factor in the original form, has better and acceptable fit index values. It was found that the scale had good internal consistency and two half-test reliability coefficients, and the criterion-related validity characteristics were in the expected direction. The analysis conducted to determine whether the subscale scores differed as a function of gender and relationship duration revealed that the main effect of gender on the warmth/affection and hostility/aggression subscale scores was significant. All findings revealed that the revised 4-factor IARQ/SF is a valid and reliable scale that can be used in both scientific studies and clinical practice in Turkey.
