The importance of regional media in communicating health issues, on the example of TVP3 Kraków

Summary/Abstract: For most of us, health is a fundamental value. Inhabitants of Kraków and Małopolska are looking for information about important events for them, including broadly understood health issues, in regional and local media and it can be assumed that their expectations are met in this respect. Communication of health issues on TVP3 Krakow belongs to the main thematic areas undertaken by its journalists, in accordance with the guidelines of the legislator directed at public radio and television. This applies to the scope of operation of information programs as well as programs wholly or mainly devoted to medicine and health. People dealing with these issues for TVP3 Krakow are valued and trusted both in the journalistic and medical circles, and especially among viewers who, as we know from journalists’ reports, willingly and often give it expression. Telewizja Kraków performs its tasks in this area diligently and conscientiously. However, it is difficult to predict whether this direction will be sustainable due to financial difficulties of the TVP field centers.
