Summary/Abstract: Literary genre, which is formed according to the conditions of the age and continues to change over time, has the function of defining, classifying and interpreting texts. It shows the quality of institutionalization by acting according to a certain method, rule and technique. It assumes the duty of a contract between the writer and the reader. At this point, it provides convenience to both the author and the reader, but also brings with the limitation and restriction of the meaning. On the other hand, with the postmodernism recently, the form and meaning characteristics of the genres have undergone a great change and the texts are written in accordance with many types and show an example of disconnection, discontinuity and pluralism. “Disconnected work”, which is a concept related to postmodernism, is based on the existence of various types in a text and fragmentation of chronological flow as a result of the breaking of the sovereignty of the species, overcoming the borders and breaking the literary patterns. In this context, it is possible to define Cahit Zarifoğlu's (1940-1987) work named ‘Yaşamak’ (1980), which is described on a daily basis, but also includes memoirs, essays, stories, letters, travel writings, novels, and prose poems, with the concept of ‘disconnected work’. In the introduction part of the study, the opinions of the theorists who talk about the relationship between literary text and genre will be discussed and information will be given about the concept of "disconnected work". Then, the comments put forward by critics about the genre of the book called "Yaşamak" will be mentioned, and the types in the work will examined through determining the way how they are included the book. Finally, the elements that require the definition of ‘Yaşamak’ as ‘disconnected work’ will be evaluated.
