Summary/Abstract: Antonia Louisa Brico is a female pianist and conductor who was born in Netherlands in 1902. What makes Brico a pioneer in the music world is that she is the first female conductor. The male dominated approaches that are faced in Western Music History does not reflect the free spirit of art. Brico, who has acomplished a first in a music world that puts men at the foreground and woman at the background, has faced many obstacles in her twenties until she got her appellation. The conductor who has taken an important step for women’s existence in the music world, has been a major inspiration for generations ahead. The aim of this research is to show Antonia Louisa Brico’s life, education and her continued struggle to obtain her achievements. Data were collected by document analysis and literature reviews for this descriptive research. The findings were interpreted and analyzed with the descriptive analysis method.
