Summary/Abstract: Violence in relation to each human is classified as a socially reprehensible act in civilized societies, especially when it affects pregnant women. An analysis of the world literature allows us to assume that the scale of violence against this social group varies from 0.9% to 29% (depending on the country, the adopted definition of the phenomenon and methods of assessment) as well as indicates the causes and effects of violence against pregnant women. The aim of the article is to initiate a social discussion on the marginalized problem of multi-faceted violence against a woman and her unborn child and to awaken interest in it on the part of not only researchers, but also practitioners and decision makers responsible for counteracting this phenomenon and supporting pregnant women – victims of violence.
