The Bulgarians in Olshanka- Past, Way of Life, Traditions

Summary/Abstract: This is a contribution to the study of the historical past and the traditional folk culture and way of life of the inhabitants of the village of Olshanka (Kirovgrad Region, Ukrainian SSR) — the descendants of Bulgarians who settled here in 1773. It is an attempt to systematize the terrain-ethnographical materials and data from documentary sources. On this foundation the study examines questions connected with the historical past and demographic processes, as well as the preservation of traditional features and elements in their way of life, costumes, spiritual culture and speech.
