Summary/Abstract: The two important factors for bringing the “intellectual property” right, which is a concept aiming to protect intellectual and artistic works and their producers, to agenda are the use of modern press and the Industrial Revolution. As a result of these, certain legislative regulations have been made to protect intellectual and artistic works and their producers until today. Regulations such as copyrights, property rights, agreements and organizations have also affected Turkey. In Turkey, the first of these legislative regulations was the Privy Council Regulations. Apart from the “Copyright Regulations” which was published in 1857 and some other regulations; the first law concerning intellectual and artistics works in the Ottoman Empire was the “Copyright Law” dated 1910, which had remained in force until 1952. Besides such attempts which continued also in the Republic period; the country joined the Bern Union, which was established to protect literary and artistic works, as a result of their attempts of reaching an agreement in international covenants and joining international organizations in the area of intellectual and artistics works and the “Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works” was adopted in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, on 5.12.1951.
