Summary/Abstract: The portraits of two signers of the Charter 77 and their fates under the communist dictatorship. One was Ladislaw Hejdanek – an activist of the movement for human rights and liberties, he was also a philosopher who suffered the repercussions for his dissidence. While marginalized by the Czechoslovak authorities, he organized seminars of non-Marxist philosophy in his own flat, thus maintaining alive a tradition that the communists tried hard to erase. Miroslav Sumavski – PhD in philosophy, was the 22nd signer of Charter 77 and in 1968 an enthusiastic supporter of the Prague Spring and Alexandr Dubcek. After the Soviet invasion, he lost his academic position and was forced to accept a job in an accountancy office.
